This is a standard 4-pin, 12-volt relay used to control high-current electrical circuits. When your car's computer (ECU) sends a low-power signal to this relay, the internal electromagnetic coil closes a heavy-duty contact, allowing up to 40–64 Amps (depending on the specific revision) of power to flow to a major component.
This is one of the most widely used relays in the Volkswagen/Audi Group (VAG) catalog. It fits almost everything from the Audi A3 to the R8, as well as Porsche, Bentley, and Lamborghini models from roughly 2010 to 2025.
